Sermon Summary
John's letter declares that God is light—pure, life-giving, and victorious over darkness. Through six "if statements," John addresses believers tempted by false teaching that separated faith from lifestyle. We cannot claim fellowship with God while walking in darkness, nor can we deny our sinfulness. However, walking in God's light brings fellowship with believers and continuous cleansing from sin. When we confess our sins, God faithfully forgives us. Though we still sin, Jesus Christ serves as both our advocate before the Father and our atoning sacrifice, making forgiveness possible while maintaining God's perfect holiness and purity.
