TODD'S TAKE

Good morning and welcome to our worship. To all our guests, we are glad to have you with us. Members and guests, please complete a digital communication card that can be accessed on the church app or by scanning the QR code below.

Today I will get back to our series “Cries of Desperation” looking at an episode in the ministry of Jesus recorded in Mark 9:14-29. In this passage we see a combination of pain, failure, and frustration that very often leads to doubt and dissension.

There are actually several cries in this section. The father of the boy who is demon-possessed cries out – twice. The apostles who are unable to exorcise this demon cry out. And Jesus himself cries out. The life of faith is often very difficult when we witness the suffering of innocent people, especially those whom we love deeply, and then feel betrayed by those who should be able to help. The life of faith is often very difficult when we find ourselves unable to accomplish the good that we think we ought to be able to accomplish. The life of faith is often very difficult when we live with people who express their doubts about Jesus. This section speaks to all those struggles and hopefully you can identify with at last one of the characters in this story.

Let’s keep in prayer our group ministering in Mexico at Casa de la Esperanza. I’m always blessed by the stories of service and faith they bring back with them.

It was good to have Hammer and Dela from Togo with us last Sunday. It’s always encouraging to put faces with the names we see weekly in the Messenger. Pray for the kingdom work all around the world.

Here’s an update on the Pray. People. Purpose. survey we recently completed. We were pleased with 195 responses, just 5 shy of our initial goal of 200. We were also pleased with the congregation’s desire to grow in each area expressed through the thoughtful comments made. We were also pleased with the honest comments in the doctrinal section. The ministers and elders are now processing the data to determine strengths and weakness of the church that were revealed through the survey. The raw data will be made available to the church soon and the ministers and elders are planning meetings on how to address the needs of the church. May we all be in constant self-examination so that we can continue to grow more and more individually and as a church.  Thank you all for your participation.
