TODD'S TAKE

Good morning and welcome to our worship. To all our guests, we are glad to have you with us. Members and guests, please complete a digital communication card that can be accessed on the church app or by scanning the QR code below.

Today I will continue the series “Cries of Desperation” looking at an episode in the ministry of Jesus recorded in Luke 17:1-10. This is a cry from the apostles in reaction to some  brief teaching of Jesus on responsibility and forgiveness. At first glance, their cry of desperation, “Increase our faith,” seems out of place. Jesus’ teaching doesn't seem to have anything to do with faith, so the reaction seems odd. However, as we will see this morning Jesus’ instructions are calling his followers to act and conduct themselves in ways that are very counter intuitive. Jesus does that a lot, and this cry actually recognizes the need for a deeper faith to truly trust that the way of Jesus is the way to life even when it doesn't seem to be. Without faith it is impossible to please God, and faith means trusting and obeying even in the face of what seems to us as self-defeating and illogical behavior.

Christian Theatre Workshop is nearly upon us. In fact, this week our principle characters will begin their rehearsals, and next Monday will begin the day camp. We currently have 121 children registered for CTW and are looking forward to a great week. Thanks to all our volunteers who put in countless hours to make this happen.  Mark your calendars for performances of Promised Land on Saturday, July 23 at noon and 4 pm and Sunday, July 24 at 4 pm. Come out and support our kids as they share with us the story of Moses and the great deliverance of God.
