TODD’S TAKE
Good morning and welcome to our worship service. If you are a guest with us this morning we welcome you and invite you to join in with us as we honor our creator and savior.

This morning I’ll finish up our  journey through the epistles of Paul as we look at his final two letters, Titus and Philemon. Both of these are short letters but have a great message and challenge to us as people saved and shaped by the grace of God.

Titus, along with 1 & 2 Timothy, is one of the pastoral epistles as Titus is serving as the evangelist on the Mediterranean island of Crete. Paul urges him to set things in order there by appointing elders as well as encouraging him and the believers to live lives that stand out among the questionable ethics of the citizens of Crete. Certainly a challenge relevant to us today.

Philemon, the shortest of Paul’s letters, is a personal plea of Paul to receive back the slave Onesimus who has run away and found refuge with Paul in Rome. Paul calls on Philemon to take him back no longer as a slave but as a brother in Christ. This is a radical request in view of Roman culture and serves as an example of how faith leads to radical transformation in the hearts of those living under the umbrella of God’s mercy and grace.

Next Sunday is our annual Covenant Sunday. Our theme comes from John 14:27: Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. We will distribute covenant stones and ask everyone to recommit themselves to the kingdom values that define us as disciples of Christ. Hope everyone can be here for this special service.
