PAWS Lite/Praise Night & Ice Cream Social

Join us at 5:15 PM this Wednesday for our meal followed by our Praise Night & Ice Cream Social at 6:30 PM in the Worship Center. Shelly Calvert and her team will be preparing Chicken Salad Croissant Sandwiches, Salad Bar, Veggie Option and PBJ for the kids.

Volunteer Opportunity                                                           

A great opportunity will open this Winter for a teacher and two assistants in the Wednesday night Toddler Bible class this winter (Dec-Feb) 6:30-7:30. Lessons, supplies, and support are ready to make serving this class a blessing! See Rachel McClure to volunteer.

 

Barnabas Food Drive

We will have a food drive Sept. 6-Sept.27 to help the Barnabas Center fill their pantry.

Pressing On - Forward in Faith

Today, August 23, we launch our Pressing On Forward in Faith Campaign. Our first step is our 40 Days of Prayer, please sign up on our calendar in the atrium. You can also sign up online through the app or website. Today, Bible classes for children will be offered for Babies and Toddlers up to 3 years only. The rest of the children will remain in the worship center to hear about the exciting plans for their future through prayer and giving! Children’s books and color sheets and crayons are available at the rear of the worship center to take back to their seats with parents. Kid-friendly sermon notetaking activity sheets are available for older students. Rachel will be at the back to provide guidance.

 

Ministers Cook Off

Mark your calendars for Wednesday, September 2 at 6:00 PM in the Courtyard. We will enjoy some good food and fellowship.  Bring a lawn chair!

TODD’S TAKE

Good morning, church family. Today is Launch Sunday for Pressing On: Forward in Faith — our capital campaign here at Park Avenue Church of Christ. In the sermon time, we're going to walk through the vision God has given our leadership as we step into what's next for this church.

Before we get there, two quick things.

First — tomorrow begins our 40 Days of Prayer and Fasting. If you haven't signed up for a day yet, I want to personally urge you to do that today. We are entering a critical season in the life of this church, and we need God's guidance and strength more than we need our own plans. Prayer isn't the warm-up act to this campaign — it's the main event.

Second — because we want every person in this building, young and old, to hear this vision together, we won't be holding Bible classes this morning for children ages 4 and up. Classes for children 3 and under will run as usual. For our older kids, we've set out books and activity sheets in the back of the worship center that they can access during the service.

Our theme passage for these 40 days is Philippians 3:12–14, and over the coming weeks I'll be preaching straight through it — Paul's words to one of his favorite churches, the church at Philippi. I want to challenge every one of us to memorize these three verses right along with me. To help with that, we've put together a daily devotional guide for every member of this church, to help you press on in your own walk with the Lord, one day at a time. This is a significant day for Park Avenue. We stand today in a long line of faithful people — the ones who planted this church, the ones who built this building, the ones who kept the doors open and the gospel preached for generations before us. Today, we step forward into what God has next for us.

Today, we commit — together — to press on.
