TODD’S TAKE
Welcome to our worship service. We are glad to have you here, whether you're a longtime member or a first-time visitor. If you have any questions about Park Avenue or need to know more about the Lord, please seek us out.
Today in the sermon time we take on the last of six phrases we have been working through as I preach through and we memorize Philippians 3:12–14. Last week Paul told us what he is straining toward: the goal and the prize. Today's phrase tells us who is behind that prize and where it leads. Philippians 3:14b:
"…for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus."
We all get a lot of calls. Some we ignore, some we return later, and a few we would drop everything for. Paul says there is one call that rearranges everything: the call of God. The word translated "heavenward" simply means "above" or "upward." This call comes from above, and it calls us upward.
Today we'll look at how that call changes a life. It says no to some things, it sets our priorities, and it gives us somewhere to go instead of drifting. We'll also look at how it changes a church. We hear this call at the start of our faith, we listen for it all through our lives over the noise of other voices, and one day we will hear it one final time when the Judge calls our name and says, "Come up."
As we close our 40 Days of Prayer and Fasting, I'm glad you are here today as we press on together.
PRESSING ON FORWARD IN FAITH - UPCOMING EVENTS

Celebration Sunday - November 1
On that Sunday we will gather together as a church family and celebrate what God is doing through us and set our sites on the future.
