TODD’S TAKE
Welcome to our worship service. We are glad to have you here, whether you're a longtime member or a first-time visitor. If you have any questions about Park Avenue or need to know more about the Lord, please seek us out.
Last week we drove past a junkyard on I-35 and heard Jesus' invitation to store up treasure in heaven, where moth and rust can't touch it. Today we ask a natural follow-up question: if our treasure belongs in heaven, why would we give toward something as earthly as a building? Can a remodeling project really be spiritual? Can a renovation bring revival?
Perhaps it can. Some of the greatest spiritual awakenings in Scripture began with a repair project. When King Josiah restored the neglected temple, his workers found the long-lost Book of the Law, and the renovation became a revival. When Nehemiah rebuilt the walls of Jerusalem, the finished work led the people to gather around God's Word and celebrate with great joy.
Today we'll also recall two phrases from Faithful to the Call twenty years ago, "Not equal gifts, but equal sacrifice" and the old proverb about planting trees whose shade we'll never sit in. We'll consider why caring for this house honors those who built it, serves the people who will meet Jesus here, and prepares us for the growth God is bringing to Texoma.
As you pray over your commitment for Pledge Sunday next week, October 25, I'm glad
you are here today as we press on together.
PRESSING ON UPCOMING EVENTS
Pledge Sunday - October 25
On that Sunday, each family will be invited to make a three-year commitment to our Pressing On campaign and to bring a First Fruits Offering to help the work begin. Pledge cards will be provided, and every commitment will be prayed over together. Please be in prayer about what God is leading you to give.
Celebration Sunday - November 1
On that Sunday we will gather together as a church family to celebrate what God is doing through us and set our sights on the future.
Following worship, we’ll share a meal together in the Ark! The church will provide the main course, and we’re asking everyone to bring a dish to share based on the first letter of your last name:
A–F: Salad
G–N: Side dish
O–Z: Dessert
Please bring enough to share with several people. We look forward to celebrating together!
