NEWS & NOTES

Sympathy
Our sympathy is with the Kirkbride family after the passing of David’s father, Lowell Kirkbride, on Monday, November 27th. Services were held on Saturday, December 2nd at Cleveland Church of Christ in Cleveland, MS.

Thank You
Jimmy & Karen Elmore
want to express a huge thank you to everyone who packed Thanksgiving boxes; the youth group that passed the boxes out to our neighbors; those who helped pack the school to-go boxes; and to each and everyone of you who donated food through the Barnabas Food Drive.  Thanks to all who continue to support this ministry at the Barnabas Center.

Ladies Christmas Party
Women of all ages are invited to the Ladies' Christmas Party. We will meet in the Atrium at 5:30pm this Monday, December 4th, for a time of food, fellowship, encouragement, and Christmas joy! We are so excited for the new things that are coming, like childcare being provided, a sneak peek with our wonderful 2024 retreat speaker Nika Maples, and a gift for all - but no need to bring a gift. Bring a friend and a finger food to share. We can't wait to celebrate this joyful season with you all!

Kids Advent Activity
Advent activities for PACOC members with children at home, are available for pick up today in the Atrium.

  • Sunday December 3rd: Connect in the gym from 5-7:30pm. Dinner will be provided.
  • Sunday December 10th: Park Avenue Youth Christmas Party from 5-8pm in the gym! Bring a $10 gift for our gift exchange game!
  • January 12th-14th: Winterfest! Sign-up online!

Quilting Class
If anyone is interested in a Beginner's Quilting Class I would like to start one on January 9, 2024.  It would be open to anyone of any age that would like to learn to quilt.  There is no charge for the class and we would meet on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month at 1:00.  If you do not have a sewing machine I believe I can secure one for you to use for the class.  The Advanced Class has been meeting for several years and has produced many beautiful quilts.  It meets on the same days but in the morning at 9:30.  It is an opportunity to learn some new skills and fellowship with other ladies. Please notify Margaret Atnip, 903-815-8415 or email tj.atnip@myrhinomail.com if you would like more information or would like to sign up.  I am enthused about another class and hope there are others who want to join!

December Sunday Morning Bible Class
The Christmas Experience is a video portrayal of the birth of Jesus that examines the Christmas story in detail. Each episode will focus on how God chose each individual in the Christmas story for a specific purpose. This is appropriate for all adults and school-aged children. Join us on Sunday mornings in December from 9:00-9:45 in the Ark for this special time.

Blue Christmas
Waples United Methodist Church will host a service of hope for the holidays again this year on  Thursday, December 21st at 6:00 p.m. This will be a quiet reflective service focusing on the comfort and light God offers us in dark and difficult times.

Park Avenue Wednesday Supper
Join us this Wednesday for our PAWS meal at 5:15PM. We will be having French Onion Chicken Casserole, Green Beans, Rolls, Salad Bar & Dessert. Chicken Nuggets for the kids along with a vegetarian and vegan option will be available. The meal will be prepared by Shelly Calvert and her team.

TODD'S TAKE

Good morning and welcome to our worship service. What a blessing to gather together to worship and fellowship. If you are a guest with us this morning we welcome you and invite you to join in with us as we honor our creator and savior. If you are looking for a church home, please feel free to let us know if you have any questions.

This morning we move on to our fourth letter of Paul, Galatians. Unlike the other letters of Paul, this one is sent to a region rather than one particular church.  The churches of Galatia were most likely the churches Paul had planted and visited on his three missionary journeys. Ancient Galatia is now modern day Turkey. As in 1 & 2 Corinthians, Paul has some rather direct words of correction for these churches as they are tempted to revert to the teaching of Law as opposed to the gospel of Grace.

I would like to thank all of the men who helped plan and carry out the Men's Conference. We are so blessed to have events like this that challenge our thinking and call us into a deeper devotion and service to the kingdom. If you missed out this year I hope you can make it next year. It’s a highlight of our Men’s Ministry here at PACOC.

Updated picture directories have been ordered and should be here soon. Thanks to Cina for all her hard work in getting our pictures and designing the directory.  We are blessed with a great office staff—Joan and Sue Lain—and Mark Ewig and Mike Chapman that take such good care of the building.

As we begin this last month of 2023 let’s be grateful for all the Lord is doing through us here at PACOC and continue to face the future with hope and optimism as we make every effort to be the people of God he is calling us to be.
