This week we are making a small shift in our Family Ministry Moments. Over the next couple of weeks, we will be talking more about our roles as parents.

God calls us as parents to have the primary role in passing down our faith to our children. If we want our kids to become followers of Christ, it begins with us. That is a heavy responsibility to carry, but it is also incredibly important in the development of their faith.

On Wednesday nights, one of our DMC’s has been going through Paul David Tripp’s book Parenting, and it has already been very insightful and helpful. Early in the book, Paul describes parents as ambassadors. An ambassador faithfully represents the message, methods, and character of the leader who sent them. In the same way, we are sent by God to represent Him and shine His light to those around us—especially in our homes. In Deuteronomy we see this addressed for us as parents.

Deuteronomy 6

4 Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 5 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.

How are you living out your faith at home for your kids to see? Whether it’s during meals, car rides, or at bedtime, simple conversations about God can help shape a child’s faith in powerful ways.

This week, try to find one moment each day to talk about God with your kids. It doesn’t have to be long or complicated. Just be intentional. Be the ambassador God has called you to be, faithfully representing Him in your home.
