NEWS & NOTES

Park Avenue Wednesday Suppers

Our PAWS meals will start back on September 7. We need set up help (arrive at 4:30 PM to set up tables) and clean up help (wipe down and take tables and chairs down from 6:15-6:45). We’d like to get enough people to create teams on a monthly rotation. Text PAWS SETUP or PAWS CLEANUP to 844-931-1822 to volunteer, or sign up here.

Security Measures

For the safety of our children, the Family Life Center (ARK) will be locked on Sundays from the time the children enter for Bible class until the time class ends. This is approximately 10:45 to 11:30. Numbers are on the door to text or call, should a parent need to get their child earlier than the designated time to unlock.

Youth Ministry

  • Sunday August 7: come swim, eat pizza, and study God’s word with us from 5:30-7:30 at Blakely Griffith’s house: 215 Hiland Acres Circle, Pottsboro. If you need a ride please let Tyler know!
  • Month of August: Park Avenue youth will follow the church schedule for Wednesday Nights!

SAMPACC

Our senior adult ministry will be gathering for a Pot Luck Dinner on Thursday, August 18, at 5:30 PM in the Atrium.  Make plans to join us for food, fellowship and a presentation by our own Thana Furr on old church buildings and their cultural significance. More details on bringing a dish will be sent out by email soon.

Right Now Media

Our church has access to an extensive faith-based video library called Right Now Media that you can access whenever and wherever you want—on your phone, iPad, computer or at home on your TV.  If you do not already have an account, contact the church office to learn how to sign-up for your free account.

Volunteers Needed

We have a need for Bible class teachers and assistants—male and female—for this Fall! Children in classes, especially Wednesday nights, need volunteers to mentor them. Please contact Rachel McClure at 903-624-6156 to volunteer.

Thank You

We are so thrilled to report to all of you who have stood by us during TJ's diagnosis and treatment.  He has been declared free of cancer!! He still has to go through 2 more treatments before he is released.  I know so many of you have been praying and showing concern for him for so many months now.  We are blessed to have this church family to stand by us!  Many thanks for the prayers and support to both of us!  We hope to be back in our places soon!  Love, TJ  & Margaret Atnip

TODD'S TAKE

Good morning and welcome to our worship. To all our guests, we are glad to have you with us. Members and guests, please complete a digital communication card that can be accessed on the church app or by scanning the QR code below.

This morning I will go after another Parishioner's Picks—suggestions from you on what to preach on. Today I have been asked to preach about gluttony. I have a love/hate relationship with this request for a few reasons. One, it hits home and it’s a lot easier to preach about other people’s sins rather than my own. Two, this request encourages me to preach about topics I would normally avoid. Three, this reminds us that our whole lives should be subjected to the rule of Christ and that sin is sin and it manifests itself in many ways, not just the “big” sins we seem to highlight.

Mark your calendars for Sunday, October 9 as we will have a congregational celebration in recognition of paying off the Ark. What an amazing ministry tool that building has been and continues to be. That construction project was a bold move by the leadership but we have been blessed as we were faithful to the call.

Disciple Making Communities will be up and running again next month. I encourage all of you to be involved in a DMC. We were never meant to go on this spiritual journey we are on by ourselves. We are so blessed to be part of a church where we can build these spiritual relationships and encourage one another to grow deeper and deeper in our faith. Let me remind you of our PRAY. PEOPLE. PURPOSE. challenge. PRAY—Be involved in public and private worship. PEOPLE—Establish relationships with other believers. PURPOSE—serve through one of the ministries of the church. We are called to be holy; a spiritual family; and servants.  DMC’s are a foundational way to meet the goal of establishing relationships.  Offerings and signups will be later this month.

Today Lanny Tucker from Eastern European Mission (EEM) is here to update us on their work. EEM is one of the ministries we help financially support through our Grace Offering. Check out EEM at eem.org or, better yet, ask Lanny any questions you might have. I know him to be passionate about the good work EEM is doing.

Sunday is always a great day to worship together, but let’s remember our whole lives are worship to God. Always be in prayer. Always look to love others. Honor God with your whole life! I’m glad you’re here!
